With Judge Yeoman's retirement, it is imperative that his position is filled with an experienced attorney who has a solid grasp of civil procedure, evidence, the laws of contracts, and other legal matters that will come before the court. A deep respect for the Constitution, the citizens of Precinct 5, and the stewardship of their tax dollars are paramount to success as a Justice of the Peace.
The court faces many important issues and needs a conservative, independent jurist in charge to deliver the fair and speedy justice you are entitled.
Efficiency in Government
Precinct 5, Place 2 is the busiest court in Texas. With approximately 100,000 new cases filed annually, the demand for its services are huge and growing, placing enormous strains on the systems ability to speedily handle all the cases before it. Citizens often face standing room only, parking nightmares, and court dates in the middle of a working day.
Seeking Justice should not be such a chore.
As your Justice of the Peace, I will work to insure you are given the speedy hearing and efficient justice you're entitled to. I will work to improve infrastructure as economically as possible, encourage the use of night court, and more efficiently manage the court so you have the access to justice that is your constitutional right.
Our Children
Education for our children is vital to their future and I'm committed to making sure our kids are in school. As a Justice of the Peace, I will have to address many truancy cases - instances where kids who skip school on a regular basis get caught, perhaps making trouble. I will take a tough stand, enforcing the law and getting those wayward youths back behind their desk and learning.
Landlord and Tenant Disputes
The Justice of the Peace courts have exclusive jurisdiction over eviction cases. A landlords ability to recover possession of an apartment from a non-paying tenant, and a tenant's right to his home are paramount to the landlords bottom line, and the tenant's ability to have a place to sleep. I will strictly follow the law in these matters, ensuring that the rights of each party are considered and justice is done.
